NIHR Research Design Service North West (RDS NW) is offering this online event for health and social care professionals and researchers who want to develop and submit an application to the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Research for Patient Benefit funding programme (RfPB).
This event will take place in the morning with the option to book an appointment at the virtual marketplace session in the afternoon.
This event is aimed at researchers in the NHS, public health and social care. Also, academics from universities across the North West of England.
Part I: Morning session – 10.00 am to 12.30 pm
This session will provide information on:
- details of the Research for Patient Benefit programme
- views from a successful applicant
- the application process and what funders are looking for in a submission
- the support that RDS NW can provide in the preparation of your application,
- advice about Public and Patient Involvement
Part II: Virtual Marketplace – 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm
If you are planning to develop an application for submission to RfPB, we are offering an opportunity for an initial discussion with RDS NW advisers, who can provide initial guidance and information on how the Research Design Service can help with your proposal development.
In order to make the most of these discussions, we advise that you have at least an outline idea of your research.
When registering you will be given the opportunity to specify if you plan to attend the afternoon marketplace session. You’ll then be contacted by the Research Design Service team who will provide you with the joining details and an appointment time for the marketplace.

10.00 am Welcome and introduction – Prof Soo Downe, RDS NW Senior Methods Lead.
10.10 am An introduction to the RfPB programme and top tips for applying – Prof Kevin Munro, Chair of the North West Regional Advisory Committee for NIHR RfPB.
10.30 am The experience of a successful applicant to RfPB – to be confirmed.
10.50 am Live question and answer session with Prof Munro.
11.10 am Break.
11.20 am How the RDS NW can help you – Dr Paula Holland, RDS NW Adviser.
11.40 am Importance of patient and public involvement including the RDS NW Public Involvement Fund and Public Involvement in a pandemic – Dr Hazel Morbey, RDS NW Specialist Public Involvement Adviser.
12.00 noon Summary and final questions – Prof Soo Downe.
12.30 pm Close.
1.00 pm to 3.00 pm Virtual ‘Marketplace’ Appointments*.
